🏭The competitiveness of industry in Europe today is determined by the intersection of two things: regulation and energy costs.
Yesterday's conference of the Electricity and Gas Consumers Forum – a union of associations devoted to the regulations of EU climate policy and their real impact on energy-intensive sectors – is undoubtedly one of those events that cannot be ignored.
The conference opened with a presentation by Henryk Kaliś, based on a report by Maciej Burna ("Analysis of current regulatory events..."). Subsequent presentations included:
🎙️ Piotr Kardaś (Employers' Association "Polish Glass") discussed the ETS after 2030 and the demands of the energy-intensive industry.
🎙️ Grzegorz Krechowiecki \(Cement Producers Association\) presented the challenges related to CBAM and its effectiveness in protecting competitiveness.
An important element of the program was the debate moderated by Filip Elżanowski (Association of Energy Lawyers), with the participation of: Elżbieta Rozmus, Pawel Bielski (Grupa Azoty SA), Wojciech Więcławik (CMC Poland), Zbigniew Pilch (Association of Cement Producers) and Maciej Burny (Enerxperience).
The common conclusion from the discussions is consistent: a real improvement in the competitiveness of European industry requires implementation – including a fuller use of instruments already permitted by EU law.
