Conference – The preparation of Polish industry for the building of nuclear power plants.

From 22 to 24 September 2015, conference “The preparation of Polish industry for the building of nuclear power plants”, organized by Ministry of Economy, Office of Technical Inspection (UDT) and the Institute of Welding was held. Polowiec i Wspólnicy sp.j. was represented by legal counsel Marcin Jamrozik.
The conference covered such issues as the status of implementation of the Polish Nuclear Power Program (PPEJ) up to 2030, the role of Office of Technical Inspection in the implementation of PPEJ and in the operation of nuclear power plants, prospects for participation of the national industry in the building of safety and steel structures of nuclear power plants, as well as international standards concerning construction and operation of nuclear power plants (e.g. ASME and RCC-M).
The National Plan for management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel is currently in preparation. In this regard, the search for a new location for low and intermediate level landfills is in progress.
Participants agreed that the supplier of nuclear technology and the main contractor for the investor – PGE EJ shall be a foreign entity. Domestic entrepreneurs are seen as direct subcontractors, especially in the areas of construction – assembly services, design works, earthworks, production of steel structures, welding works, production of fittings, pressure pipelines, pumps, production of tanks and production of electric power equipment.
The analysis of the Ministry of Economy concludes that there are several hundred companies in Poland having experience in the implementation of nuclear projects worldwide. The Ministry of Economy has estimated that by 2030 the value of Polish industry participation in the whole nuclear program should be approximately 60%.
As the target PPEJ envisages introducing to the Polish “energy mix” two nuclear power plants up to 2035.
We will observe development of PPEJ in order to have competence and knowledge needed to provide assistance to companies involved in the implementation of PPEJ.
